This year, the club added a caroling concert into the mix. Members that were involved in this event practiced for weeks. They were able to show all their hard work to their family and friends. Sunny Fichtl and Millie MacGregor donated their time to help out with teaching the members songs and perfecting their vocals.
After the concert, youth enjoyed some snacks including cookies and juice with their friends and family. Of course the holidays would not be complete without the big guy in red. The club members received a special treat when Santa Claus himself visited the Clubhouse. Not only did Santa hang out with the members and take pictures, he gave presents to all of the 120 club members. The members were able to pick out a gift and take home one stuff animal.
“My favorite part of the party was when Santa came and gave all of us presents!” said 6-year-old Nicholas Mendez.
“I really enjoyed the event. I’m really grateful for all the parents and volunteers that showed up and supported us. Our staff is here for the youth and I am very grateful to have them,” said Detric Miles, Clubhouse Director.
Many youth in the community are not able to enjoy holidays due to financial situations. The Boys & Girls Club works with local businesses and organizations to give every club member and present for Christmas and a joyful experience. The Boys & Girls Club thanks PetSmart, Toys for Tots, and Joann’s for their contribution to the event, the gifts they donated, and making a difference by giving back to the community.
“The staff at the Club is really awesome. I’m really thankful for what they do,” said 16-year-old Jake McPhatter.
“We could not do this event for our members every year without the support of the community,” said Jay Hamwright, Chief Professional Officer. “The generosity of local businesses, organizations, and volunteers give us the ability to create magical moments for the youth we serve.”
