The “Sierra Vista Torch Club Tumbleweeds” recently attended the Arizona State Torch Club Conference in Komatke, Arizona where they participated in different activities, community service projects, and challenges with other Torch Clubs around the state.
Torch Clubs are chartered, small-group leadership and service clubs for Boys & Girls Club members ages 11 to 13. Torch Club members elect officers and work together to implement activities in four areas: service to Club and community; education; health and fitness; and social recreation. The Torch Club program teaches the members how to be caring, responsible and productive citizens.
The Boys & Girls Club of Sierra Vista offers a variety of programs at their facility. One particular program that’s a favorite in the club is the “Be a Chef! program”. The program gives the teen members a opportunity to explore a different interest in culinary.
The club recently took a visit to the Philadelphia Baking Company to see what they do and how their day to day operations work.
The owner Samuel “Soup” Campbell talked to the members about how his business started and the different kind of pastries and foods they serve.
